The Master of Science in Educational Technology (MSET) is an instructional technology program designed to meet the rapidly increasing demand for educators who are trained to integrate computer technologies into the curriculum and instruction. As computers and technology have become a significant part of the teaching and learning process, addressing the information needs of teachers has become the key to integrating technology into the classroom and increasing student learning. The primary emphasis of the master's program is to prepare educators who can create learning environments that integrate computers into the teaching and learning process. Next year, I will be 3/4 time technology coordinator and curriculum integrationist. With my MSET degree, I am more comfortable helping my co-workers integrate the 1:1 laptops into grades 4-12. For the past 3 years, my district has had 1:1 laptops in grades 7-12. Next year we will be adding grades 4-6 to our one-to-one for in-class laptop use.
Specifically by the end of the program MSET students will understand the capabilities of the computer and its impact upon education. They will be proficient in a programming language and in the use and application of computer software and will be able to demonstrate proficiency in using computers and related technologies to improve their own and their students learning needs.
The program integrates a highly technological environment with a project-based curriculum. Its focus is supported by an institutionally systemic belief that there is a substantial role for technology in teaching and learning in all educational environments. The networking classes I have taken towards my MSET degree have been invaluable to me in setting up our 1:1 wireless network and 2003 servers. I can now troubleshoot my network and usually get the problems fixed in a short period of time. The Instructional classes have helped me better understand how technology can be incorporated into my and my co-workers curriculum while incorporating 21st Century Skills. The Leadership classes have helped me better understand how to deal with administrators and co-workers. As well as how to be a leader in the technology field.
